Purpose of Role

The ‘Glasgow West Community Green Map’ is part of a worldwide group of ‘Green Maps’ which are active in 65 countries around the world. The Community Map is an online map that enables people to share information about our community’s natural, cultural and environmental resources and covers the neighbourhoods of Yoker, Scotstoun, Knightswood, Whiteinch, Jordanhill and more in West Glasgow. We will also be looking to support and develop other community maps as well.

We are looking to build our map making team of contributors to share local knowledge; ensure the map is up-to-date; and to inspire residents and visitors to explore the area.

Task Description

We would like our Community Map Maker Volunteers to:

  • Learn about the Green Map system and how best to use the system; advice and guidance can be given on this;
  • Sign up to be part of the map making team;
  • Share local knowledge with the community;
  • Edit existing information accordingly.

Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Ability and access to a computer systems
  • Desire to get involved in the community
  • Positive attitude
  • Good attention to detail
  • Willingness to explore their community to check on current entries.

Accountable to

Members of the map making team will be monitored by Glasgow Eco Trust.

Support and Supervision

Support and supervision will be provided by Glasgow Eco Trust staff, along with fellow Board Members. Volunteers will be encouraged to access any relevant training delivered by Glasgow Eco Trust or partners, and be invited to participate in events and celebrations.

Time Commitment Required

The amount of time given to this role is entirely at the volunteers discretion. Contributors can log on to the system at a time that suits them and make suitable entries or amendments.
