Purpose of Role

Glasgow Eco Trust is a local environmental charity and social enterprise based in west Glasgow that coordinates and delivers a range of environmental activities and services to enable local people to get active, get involved and to make a difference. The Board of Trustees is responsible for agreeing on the strategic vision, mission and purpose of Glasgow Eco Trust and for guiding the organisation towards achieving its goals through good governance.

Task Description

Glasgow Eco Trust would not exist without our Board, they are at the core of everything we do. Being able to work as part of a team is cruicial, along with a desire to learn about new issues. This role will involves attending Board meetings to discuss and decide upon a broad range of issues such as:

  • Environmental Issues;
  • Community spaces;
  • Community Food projects;
  • Active Travel and Transport;
  • Fundraising;
  • Partnership Working.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Due to the nature of this role, we are particularly keen to hear from people with the following skills and experience:

  • Governance and Company Secretarial Practice;
  • Strategic Planning and Fundraising;
  • Social Enterprise and Business Development Skills;
  • Human Resources, Employment Law and Recruitment knowledge;
  • Accounting and Finance;
  • Health and Safety.

Accountable to

Glasgow Eco Trust chairperson and board

Support and Supervision

Support and supervision will be provided by Glasgow Eco Trust staff, along with fellow Board Members. Volunteers will be encouraged to access any relevant training delivered by Glasgow Eco Trust or partners, and be invited to participate in events and celebrations.

Time Commitment Required

The Board meets monthly, alternating between regular business meetings and development meetings. Additional meetings and short term working groups are set up as required. Each meeting lasts between 1 – 1.5 hours. There will also be time needed to prepare and review papers prior to Board meetings.
