Purpose of Role

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone that has a passion for cycling, who wants to motivate others and enjoys being outdoors.  We are looking for Volunteers to become part of our growing group of enthusiastic cyclists who go out on adult led rides.  It is also a great chance for anyone who is looking to build on the leadership skills.  This role has the potential to progress towards a formal qualification.

Task Description

We have experienced and qualified Cycle Ride Leaders who currently take out groups of individuals to explore the local area by bike as a leisure activity.  This role is to Assist the Cycle Ride Leaders, shadowing them and learning from them.  Some potential duties include:

  • Promoting the Led Rides and encouraging others to join.
  • Understand and assist with the administration and running of led rides.
  • Help to gather information from participants and collate evidence of the positive impact that social cycling is having for them.
  • Most importantly - assist with the Led Ride.

Skills and Personal Qualities

  • A positive attitude and happy to be part of a team.
  • Be a regular, confident and competent cyclist.
  • Have your own bike and suitable safety equipment (although we can subsidise this).
  • Know some of the basics of bike maintenance.

Support and Supervision

Supervision will principally be from Glasgow Eco Trust staff with the support and guidance of our Cycle Ride Leader.

Time Commitment Required

At the moment we have led rides that happen on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10am-1pm and they usually begin and end at Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre and other occasionally similar local locations.  We would hope that a volunteer to this role would be able to attend a minimum of one of these days most weeks.
