Glasgow Eco Trust supports the Better Buses for Strathclyde campaign which had a big breakthrough last month with SPT agreeing to take forward the two campaign asks:

  • commencing work on franchising (re-regulating the bus network) and
  • developing a business case for a new publicly-owned bus company for Strathclyde.

Consultation on recommendations

SPT have made five recommendations and they are now running a public consultation on their proposals for bus reform and so the campaign is ramping up gain.

Better Buses for Strathclyde's position on the five recommendaiton is:

  1. Rule out business as usual - strongly support
  2. Rule out voluntary partnerships - strongly support
  3. Take forward Local services franchising - strongly support
  4. Take forward BSIPs - strongly oppose
  5. Investigate municipal bus operation - strongly support

Better Buses for Strathclyde has published a simple guide to the consultation and encourages as many people as possible to complete it before the deadline. If you only complete the mandatory questions, it takes less than 5 minutes! The consultation closes at midnight on Monday 13 May 2024.
