Eco Schools Scotland Litter and Waste

Eco-Schools Scotland is part of the largest sustainable schools programme in the world. Here in Scotland the programme is managed by Keep Scotland Beautiful.There are 10 topics to work on including a litter and waste topic.

Litter & Waste covers actions on litter, dog fouling, flytipping, and graffiti, as well as waste minimisation actions such as recycling and composting. The Litter & Waste Topic has natural overlap with all other topics.

Completing a Green Flag Application is recognised by the Green Flag Award - a visible indication of a school's commitment to Learning for Sustainability and an internationally recognised accreditation for excellence in sustainable education.

Climate Action is a core topic and all applications must include at least three actions per topic as well as at least one litter pick or survey.

Eco-Schools is one of five programmes operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful in Scotland.

Litter free poster winners

As part of the #LitterFreeG14 campaign a litter poster competition was held with local primary schools. There were some fantastic entries and delighted to announce the 3 winners.
Borrowing litter picking equipment

There are several local community litter picking hubs where you can borrow litter picking equipment from. Glasgow City Council are also able to loan equipment as well.
Report a litter issue

You can report litter and other environmental issues to Glasgow City Council by phone, online and by using the MyGlasgowCC app.

Glasgow City Council has an online map of all the locations of street litter bins across the city. This is part of our community litter prevention action plan and litter free campaign.
