Glasgow Eco Trust recently secured funding from the National Lottery Together For Our Planet fund for our Community Connections for Climate Action project.

This project builds on the work we did previously with our Community Environmental Forum prior to lockdown and is also looking to build on the back of COP26 which was held in Glasgow back in November.

Project Aim

The aim of the Community Connections for Climate Action project is to create opportunities for people and organisations in west Glasgow (G13/G14) to come together, connect, listen and learn, share knowledge and expertise and thus become better able to take individual and collective climate

There are 3 elements to the project

  • Community events/gatherings
    • Spring into Action (planned for May)
    • Summer Sensations (planned for Aug)
    • Autumn Anniversary (planned for Nov to link to the 1 year anniversary of COP26 and the start of COP27)
  • Action meet ups - regular sessions to keep people connected, take action and maintain momentum
  • Upskilling for climate action - organise opportunities to enable people to develop their skills and learn from others

Themes and Outcomes

The project is focusing on the following five themes, the first four of which are the main contributors to household carbon footprints. The spaces theme covers both buildings and outdoor spaces and how they are used in relation to the other 4 themes

  • Transport
  • Food
  • Resource use
  • Energy
  • Spaces

In addition, we believe that taking collective and individual action on the above themes will help to address the following cross cutting themes/outcomes, which are more focused on the social/people aspects:

  • Improving health and wellbeing
  • Reducing inequalities
  • Reducing poverty
  • Reducing loneliness and isolation
  • Increasing education and life long learning
  • Increasing knowledge, skills and employability
  • Stronger local democracy
