A group of young project managers from BAE Systems are competing in the Association of Project Managers annual challenge event and they have chosen Glasgow Eco Trust as the local charity that they want to support.

We caught up with Kiera and Arianna, two of the five person team, to find out more.

Hi! We are BAEutiful Banks, a group of young professionals from BAE systems. We have been asked to compete in this year’s APM Challenge. The APM Challenge is held by the Association for Project Management and aims to upskill and develop apprentices and graduates across the UK. The challenge involves selecting a charity and raising funds for them, whilst using APM principles and work practices.

The theme for this year’s APM Challenge is Sustainability, which is one of the main focus points for BAE and its stakeholders.  We chose our name BAEutiful Banks to represent the banks of the River Clyde, which is where our main shipyards are located.  Since all five of our team members are based in Glasgow, we researched local charities that make a positive impact on the environment, particularly in Glasgow and surrounding areas.  When we came across Glasgow Eco Trust, we knew that this charity were a great fit, especially with their alignment to the Keep Scotland Beautiful Campaign, which BAE are also involved in.

We aim to hold two physical activity events to raise funds for Glasgow Eco Trust. Firstly, our immediate team will be walking and or cycling a collective total of 26 kilometres per day for 26 days.  Secondly, we will host a communal event across our workforce whereby people can sign up to the Active 26 challenge of 26km over 26 days total in the same fashion, walking or cycling with no emissions involved.

With the proceeds from these events, we hope to raise enough to firstly raise awareness about Glasgow Eco Trust, so that a continuous relationship can flourish post project completion.  We’ll ensure this is maintained by building a small relaxation area using recycled materials on BAE grounds.

If anyone would like to sign up for our challenge, then please get in touch and we can send any information over that you may need.  Thank you for your interest in BAEutiful Banks!
