Glasgow Eco Trust cycle skills sessions are part of our Active Travel programme. The sessions are open to anyone who is looking to improve their cycling and want to start to explore the local area.

In terms of the types of activities you can do:

  • Learn to cycle - for those people who want to learn to cycle or who are returning to cycling for the first time in a long time. Outdoors at Heart of Scotstoun
  • Improving your cycle skills - for people who can cycle but want to improve their cycling and bike handling skills. Outdoors at Heart of Scotstoun
  • Led rides - for people who are confident cyclists who want to start exploring their local area more. This will take place on the local cycle network and quite roads

About the sessions

  • Sessions will take place on a Saturday and will be based from the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre. Please note that access to the community centre may be limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • There will be two sessions available each lasting 75 minutes.
  • Session 1 is from 10am to 1115am and Session 2 is from 1130am to 1245pm.
  • You will be able to book up to 6 people on each session. There will need to be 1 adult per 2 children under 16
  • Please arrive 5 mins before your session is due to start. Please do not turn up earlier than this.
  • Advance booking is required for this event.

Please note:

  • You need to bring your own bike and helmet (optional)
  • Please make sure the bike is roadworthy - we will do a basic check with you
  • Please dress appropriately for the wonderful Scottish weather
  • The session will be led by at an experienced cyclist and qualified leader.
  • Please read the cycle leader and cyclist agreement shown below
  • All sessions will follow Scottish Government guidance for the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Cycle Leader Agreement

  1. We will always try to make the activity safe and enjoyable for you
  2. We will tailor the activity to meet the needs of everyone in the group
  3. We will brief you at the start of the activity and keep you informed throughout
  4. All activities will be led by at least one qualified Cycle Leader

Cyclist Agreement

  1. If you have any concerns about your fitness for this activity you will talk to the Cycle Leader or a health professional
  2. You will tell the Cycle Leader if you feel unwell during the activity 
  3. You will tell the Cycle Leader if you are leaving the activity before it has ended
  4. Travelling to and from the activity is your responsibility
  5. Your understand that you take part in the activity at your own risk

IMPORTANT

If you are showing any signs of coronavirus symptoms please DO NOT book an appointment or come to the workshop. Please stay at home and follow the latest guidance from the Scottish Government.

The most common symptoms are new:

  • continuous cough
  • fever/high temperature (37.8C or greater)
  • loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste (anosmia)

A new continuous cough is where you:

  • have a new cough that’s lasted for an hour
  • have had 3 or more episodes of coughing in 24 hours
  • are coughing more than usual
